My name is Lily (I am a dog by the way). I think they called me Lily because it rhymes with silly, which I know I am a bit but I can’t help that. Also because I am mostly white, with not as much brown on me as most Jack Russels, but there’s nothing I can do about that either.
Anyway, I live at Butley Priory and am as it were the top dog (well I’m in fact the only dog, apart from Skimp who is unfortunately for him a kind of cat, albeit a very grand one from Burma. He’s almost as good as a dog, and good at boxing and wrestling which we spend a lot of time doing. He’s my friend.
One of my main jobs here at Butley Priory is to welcome the guests, as loudly as possible. I am extremely friendly by nature and find that barking and jumping on their arrival provokes much general shouting and puts people at their ease in a flash. I race around showing them into the Great Hall, and then run ahead up the stairs to show them their room. On occasion I have been known to stay with the nervous one a while in their room, just to settle them in.
I also take them for walks, and if they want I will get into their cars and show them around the area. I don’t know why this is not more popular, perhaps because I haven’t yet learned to speak English. Been trying, it is quite a hard language to master.
I also show the prospective brides and grooms around the place. Sometimes they even invite me to their weddings, though mostly I stay away as I am (curiously) quite retiring underneath my extrovert exterior.
Anyway, I look forward to regaling you with my dogs eye view of Butley Priory during the coming year, as I HAVE mastered the art of word processing (don’t ask me how, night classes, it’s been hard …)
